Platform for Security and Defense Initiatives (PISA) is a non-governmental organization and aims to support government institutions in security and defense sector reform through Moldovan civil society, providing alternative expertise in the process of assessing security sector governance and presenting informed opinions and recommendations.
PISA was set up in 2021 as an initiative of a group of experts and NGOs to oversee civil society oversight of the security sector and to ensure a constant and transparent dialog between civil society and security sector institutions, politicians and public officials. In August 2022, PISA was legally registered as a public association.
The Platform believes that a resilient Moldova with a strong security and defense sector is a prerequisite for the development of a prosperous country in the future. PISA works to support the development of transparent and accountable security policies and practices.
PISA cooperates with government, parliament, civil society, academia and the media. The Platform provides advisory support, practical assistance and capacity building programs, develops tailored policy research and identifies good practices and recommendations to promote security sector governance and reform.
MISSION
PISA intends to become the leading NGO in addressing defense and security issues such as security sector reform, strategic communication in the security sector and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, and to provide a solid platform for discussion and expertise to national and international actors, provide quality products and advice to government institutions and partners, thereby contributing to the promotion of security culture in society.
OBJECTIVES
- Oversight and monitoring of the security and defence sector by civil society organizations;
- Establish a civil society mechanism to facilitate a dynamic review of security sector governance;
- Establish a constructive dialogue between civil society, media, academia and security and defense sector stakeholders;
- Supporting government institutions by providing alternative expertise in assessing security sector governance, as well as offering informed opinions and tailored recommendations;
- Promoting a security culture in society by providing a comprehensive picture of national security issues, aimed at both informing and shaping, shaping, determining and sustaining attitudes and behaviors of the target audiences.
FIELDS OF ACTIVITY
Information&Promotion
- To inform the Moldovan society about the multiple aspects of security and to increase awareness and interest in this subject by organizing public diplomacy activities such as information campaigns, thematic conferences, seminars, debates, lectures, TV and radio broadcasts, elaboration of various visual materials.
- Countering stereotypes related to security and defense, but also offering objective information alternatives to improve and deepen the understanding of security issues.
- Making available to the general public and decision-makers, in appropriate and accessible language, assessments, scientific research findings, conclusions and recommendations on various topics of national and international interest.
Analysis
- Preparation ofstudies, policy papers, evaluations, forecasts, forecasts, surveys and analytical reports in the field of national security and defense, international relations and regional security.
- Assist national authorities in the development of security policies.
- Creation of a common database for research, thematic public policy on the www.pisa.md website.
Education
Organization of the Security Academy, seminars, lectures and specific project training on security and defence, strategic communication, international security.
